About Us
#climatereadyschools
The Climate Ready Schools Coalition is a group of education, climate, health, youth, labor, civil rights, and business leaders collaborating to support #climatereadyschools for California's most vulnerable students.
UndauntedK12 and Ten Strands provide backbone leadership for the coalition, which was founded in 2022 and has more than 30 members representing diverse organizations statewide.
Our Vision
Every student in California attends a zero emission and climate-resilient school that supports their health, safety, learning, and development.
How we work
We support California policy makers, agencies, and district leaders to adopt, resource, and implement nation-leading policies to decarbonize every school building and ensure school buildings and grounds are healthy and resilient in a time of rapidly increasing extreme weather.
Our Priorities
We focus on sustainability and climate resilience in school buildings, grounds, and transportation. We also lend our support to organizations and coalitions working on related issues, such as environmental and climate literacy and sustainable food.
We prioritize efforts to support students of color, low-income students, and those disproportionately impacted by extreme heat, airborne toxins, and environmental injustice.
Why Climate Resilient Schools?
A climate-resilient school buffers the adverse health impacts of climate change, including exposures to toxic wildfire smoke and extreme heat, and decreases harm to children’s academic progress and social-emotional development that result from climate-related disruptions.
A climate-resilient and sustainable school, in addition, operates in a way that contributes as little as possible to the causes of climate change.
